I appreciate anyone's input, but I am not nieve to moving to a new city. Pretty much the whole country is aware of Compton. Los Angeles has some of the worst crime in the country. I need to know what are some bad areas of town that most people don't know about. And please do not suggest that I drive around the neighborhoods, I'm likely to get shot. I know LA has many gangs, I just don't know where they are.

Most of Los Angeles is Dangerous to a new wide eyed innocent. Learn your way around by the highways, don't antagonize any one on the freeway.

Stay out of Compton (South LA) and any of the areas around Downtown. Stick to the Valley where it's suburb central.

The best way to find out if a neighborhood is dangerous is to drive around it and look around. Are the yards and cars well kept? Do the people on the streets look like they take care of themselves? Are there kid's toys in the yard? While you're looking at the shape of these things, look at the price of them as well. All neighborhoods are dangerous to a certain extent but there are ones where the police won't come to or take their time getting to the crime scene.
This applies to any city, not just LA.
