You need to take everything out of the tank but the heater (unless the water's 80o or more where you live). The male needs to be able to see the eggs that fall to the bottom of the tank after the female lays them, so the bottom needs to be bare. I do keep a few plants on one side, so the female has a place to hide if the male becomes too aggressive in chasing her. You'll also need to lower the water level so it's only a few inches deep - it save the male a lot of swimming up and down to place the egs/fry back in the nest if they fall.

See this website for more on what you'll need to do to breed bettas and raise the fry: http://www.bettatalk.com/

You'll need to find a temporary home for the rest of the fish as well - they'll at least try to eat the eggs and fry. Unless you've conditioned the female for breeding, you shouldn't have her in the same tank with the male - if he's ready to spawn and she isn't there's a good chance he could injure or kill her.

To breed your Bettas you need to make it feel like spawning season in your tank. Lower the water level to about half and up the temperature of the water to 80 Fahrenheit. Make sure the water surface is still and provide some surface plants to allow the male Betta to build the bubble nest in. Once the nest is built then you can introduce the female. If the male builds a nest then he will be ready to spawn and it should happen shortly after you place the female in the tank. Remove the female after spawning and the male when the fry are free swimming.

Some bonehead gave me a thumbs down. Well not actually me because I got my information from multiple books I have on hand. "The Pratical Aquarium Fish Handbook" and "Baensch Aquarium Atlas Volume 1".

The best is you take out every fishes you have i n the tank. You should put the male and female together but if the male doesn't like the female he may kill her. If the male like the female the the male with make nestes and their like little bubbles suck together. then the female will lay the eggs on it. then you should remove the female because she will eat them eventally. Leave your male and he will nurse till the egg hatches.
