Muscled guys can certainly be intimidating. Try to remember that under those muscles, they are just like the rest of us. Some are probably jerks. But others are very nice people who have the same needs as the rest of us. And many may find it hard to get close to others because people tend to be intimidated by them. Never be afraid to simply say "Hi" to anyone, and then take it from there. You might be pleasantly surprised.
