Hi,

inspite of the fact that you got some pretty good answers here, if you are really serious about acting, you will not get used to asking for acting tips on the internet, but you will get them from your really good acting school, from your really good teacher.

If you are really serious, you should think hard about getting yourself into a really good school asap.

Trying to piece together the suggestions from people on the internet, especially if you are inexperienced and without a solid base, will be difficult at best. It will be a lot easier if you get your teacher to show you in your regular and frequent and on-going classes how you build your acting base. After that, you will no longer need to ask us how you can have a more realistic performance.

With regard to schools, how to choose one and in general how to get started the right way in your acting career, you can go to my website and download a free ebooklet: What It Takes To Become An Actor. Just go there, sign in and you can download it.

Hope that helps you some. And good luck!

Tony

A realistic performance is more than just reading the lines. YOu have to feel what the character is saying. Actors call this "Motivation". What 'motivates' the character to say this? What motivates this bad guy to do these bad things?

In addition, learn all you can about your character and imagine what he would be like in both thought, deed and "body language." Is he the type to stand tall and walk quickly and decisively? Or an old man who walks with a cane, placing the cane carefully with each step so as not to fall? These are things which actors call "business". Sometimes they are part of the 'dressing' of a scene, but many can be part of your characterization.

Each piece of "business" you can add to your character gives him depth without actually speaking. At the same time you don't want to tie your character up into bits which drag the character down. This is how your performance can be more "real".

Just Picture Youself In The World Of The Character, See What It's Like, What It Feels Like And How It Sounds. Be In The World, Don't Pretend You Are The Person, Be Them.

Just watch people. Study their personalities, movements, emotions, etc. Sit in a mall, take a journal with you, and jot down your observations.
Also, look into yourself to find emotion. Recall a past experience, one simliar to the situation you are portraying, and remember the sensation, emotion, and anything else you felt at that time.

if you really want to make your acting more realistic, don't act it! if you actually feel what your character is feeling, the emotion will just flow. because if YOU don't believe or feel what your saying, how will the audience feel or believe you? just trust me! acting is not about acting, it's about BEING.

You have to make the character real to you, whatever that takes,it can't be a cartoon or a one'dimensional thing.Dig down inside yourself, that's the key, then, use it to convey the your charactor is thinking feeling,etc///
