Lower case came from the printing industry, those lead letters were kept on the "lower cases" on the shelves so the printers could find them easier and not confuse them with the "Capital" (larger letters).

LOWER CASE CHARACTERS are not capital letters. they can be 1234567890 also.
UPPER CASE CHARACTERS ARE: !@#$%^&*()_+
