country together no matter how badly the Govt. screws things up?

It's an ideal that doesn't always stand up to reality.

But the hope is there......

The Constitution isn't holding anything together! The American people have become weak and submissive! The founding fathers would despise our government, and call for a revolution! In our time, people allow the government to trample their rights, and demean justice. In fact, the "Patriot Act" is the most unpatriotic legislation ever passed!

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety!"

In my opinion, we Americans have to stand up for ourselves, and demand respect for our rights!

Considering the various loopholes the US federal government can take to bypass "the system," it's not that comforting to me. Executive orders, executive pardons, categorical block grants ... they're all ways to get around the constitution.

contrary to some posts above, it's very comforting. it's probably the main reason we are still here.
