She may not be the only parent to lose a son over there but maybe he was the only son she had to lose, it's easy for you to stand back and condemn her for her views, but until you've walked a mile in her shoe's you'll never be able to understand her perspective

It seems the closer you get to the reality and the cost of a war the less important notions of patriotism and duty to a country become. True, her son did sign up as a professional soldier to fight and potentially die for his country, but when said country claims to be a democratic one it is the right of anyone to question whether or not the government has abused that commitment, and if they feel they have, say something about it. Whatever your opinions on the war in Iraq, its hard to claim manyof its original objectives have been or are ever likely to be achieved. and the best way to support all western troops in Iraq is to give them a ticket home.

Like everyone else's sons, her son was sent to Iraq under false pretenses. He, along with all other soldiers, Congress, and the American people, was told he was sacrificing life because:
a) Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11, which proved to be incorrect;
b) Iraq was stockpiling 'weapons of mass destruction', which proved to be a lie;
c) We were there to defend our country and to bring democracy to Iraq, which proved to be nothing more than a scam;
d) We were there to establish peace in the Middle East, which proved to be inaccurate.
Sheehan has every right to be upset over her son's murder which was the direct result of lies, distortions, half-truths, misrepresentations and fabrications by an arrogant, evil, cowardly, incompetent, corrupt, greedy Commander-In-Chief, his Vice-President, his Secretary of Defense, and an equally contemptible, chicken-hearted, lazy, corrupt Republican-led Congress that turned its back while Bush ran rip shod over our Constitution, violated American laws and the UN Charter, and disregarded the rules of the Geneva Convention. It's a shame that more mothers who have lost sons to this immoral, worthless, evil war aren't joining Sheehan in her protests. From its very first day, this 'war' was - and still is - all about OIL and WAR PROFITEERING at any cost - including the unnecessary deaths of 675,000 Iraqis and almost 4,000 U.S. soldiers. I believe Cindy Sheehan is honoring her son's heroism by being a the courageous heroine she's been. She is to be saluted for standing up to the dastardly Bush-Cheney administration which is so cowardly it won't even allow the media to take photos of all the flag-draped caskets coming in to Dover Air Force Base from Iraq. -RKO- 07/14/07

I see others mention how the war was started..but it really doesn't matter how the war was started, if the war is the "right" war, or if we should even be at war. In the military you are trained to honor your country and protect..not protest.
You follow the commanders commands...and he did just that. He did his part.
As to his mother..none of us are doubting how much pain it would be to lose a son..we are questioning her actions after his death. It doesn't take a tv camera to grieve properly.. ..it certainly doesn't take a camera to honor him. She is taking his honor away with her actions. His name will forever be linked to her actions instead of the service he provided to all of us.
She is the type of person that sues McDonalds for selling hot coffee.
I wonder if she had any problems with the education he got..?...or the signing bonus they received..?...or the benefits he was receiving..?...and the check she is most likely getting each month..?
She is not helping any of us by her public rants.

No, thousands of soldiers lost sons. Young people are easily seduced by the "romance" of war and being a hero. Even very young children play variants of war games and progress to paintball shooting etc. unfortunately some never outgrow this, and are lured to want the real thing, helped along by propaganda to enlist to "fight for your country". Iraq never attacked the USA, but George Bush who missed out on the real thing chose to play war with young Americans as soldiers. I think it is disgusting to order Ms Sheehan, a griefstricken mother, to "try" being a hero. Her efforts to make other mothers aware of the folly of war have indeed been heroic.

People who grieve have their own way of acting out. I am sure her frustrations for her son's death was very important to her at the time and she felt the need to express herself. Now that she has finally gotten back to her own life, she has obviously dealt with her grieving process. I think we all have our own ways of dealing with grieving, she just did hers a little more loudly. I think she did a good thing. It's good to stand up and ask questions...although, no one really answered her. I think eventually she got the hint.

If she wasnt being "led around by the nose" from those other media pigs, celebrities and Lefty peace activists, she would get her own life back. It already cost her her marraige to her husband.
