How do you take off the words that drop down when you type in a lettter on the internet? I NEED HELP!!!?

Every time i type in a letter on the internet(on any website)a whole bunch of words that start with that letter appear in a drop-down box. will somebody please tell me how to take them off. I COULD REALLY USE THE HELP.

I have Windows 2000, so these are the directions for my OS.

Open your internet explorer, at the top, click 'Tools", then 'Internet Options', Then 'Content'.
Now choose 'Auto Complete' and you can clear the history as well as prevent it from happening again.

in internet explorer go to tools-internet options. Under general tab, click on clear history. Note: some sites are persistant and take a deep clean to get rid of.
