I just bought a figure eight puffer fish about a week ago from a fish store...it hasn't really been eating much but its stomach is getting bigger...could it be pregnant? if so does it lay eggs? and how do i care for the eggs?

They are egg layers, so it's not pregnant. it could be developing eggs, but more likely it's just finally getting to eat it's fill. here's some more info on them:

Hope that helps

Yes, it sounds like nematode worms. I'm sorry to say there isn't much you can do about it. This is common w/wild-caught fish. I've heard of it often especially w/F8s for some reason. Killing the worms will leave the dead bodies inside the fish, to rot & eventually kill the fish. Keep it under observation in a quarantine tank, if possible. When the fish starts to suffer you need to euthanize it. Either place it in a baggie of tank water into the freezer, or overdose it w/clove oil.

Well as MM said it can't be pregnant, if its stressed out it might be puffing up which is bad, if when the person who was giving you the fish used a net, the puffer could have puffed up air which is lethal.

By the way what do you feed it?
