I thought it was a great movie, debatably the best war movie based on life in the Marines.
And in reponse to dalgirl990 for complaining about the racist content in the movie, Asians weren't the only thing discriminated against, Jews, blacks, gender, and much more. This was just to portray the way life was during that era in the Marine Corps. Do you hate Schindler's List because they slandered Jews?

Kubrick's most popular if not his greatest film. I originally thought it was too long and two dimensional but in time it has become one of my favorite films. As for boot camp movies i put it up there with Stripes as polar opposites coming out in about the same time telling two ways to look at the process. You can also watch Heartbreak Ridge, Billoxi Blues, A Soldier Story, Cadence, and Hair if you want to see similar scenes in movies.

It's a great movie. Interestingly, the guy playing the role of the boot camp instructor (R. Lee Ermey) had actually been a boot camp instructor.

I think its good, but I really seem to get bored after the boot camp part. I think its said though. That and Platoon. really sad, but they r good because they show how the soldiers just did nothing aimlessly and fought guerrilla warfare.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I think they could have made two movies out of it. They could have ended the first one right when they get out of basic. Then the second one picks up from there.

Although I haven't seen the whole movie, it contains a racist and degrading scene with an Asian woman, which has contributed to discrimination and stereotypes against Asian people, more than you can probably imagine. I loathe the phrase "me love you long time".......
Otherwise, I am sure it is a good movie, but understand that I am predisposed to dislike it, because I am Asian American and female.
