Ok I'm going to put something out there that Bible lovers may disagree with. The Bible was written LONG after the actual possible "murder of Abel by Cain" IF and thats a big IF this murder actually happened, it may actually be the first murder. However this does not answer the question being asked of when and where the first murder was RECORDED. There are many references to murders taking place long before the Bible was even thought of. There are references to such murders written in the Cuneiform language of Babylon, the Ancient Egyptians (King Tut himself was most likely murdered), the Ancient Greeks, and of course who can forget the murder of Julius Caesar. The Bible RECORDED murders long after these other cultures did. Why do you think the code of hammurabi was created.

It is probably best if you take into consideration that the Bible is not the only, or earliest, written record of humanity - and since the Bible does not contain any records of civilizations outside of the Middle East - there is no proof that characters like "Cain" and "Abel" were the first recorded murderers.

Well do you mean the first RECORDED Murder(Cain slaying Abel) or the first murder that was put in record. I'm not sure at what point they wrote of Cain killing Able and maybe some other murder was entered into record first, although to be honest I don't know what one that would be.

what comes to mind first is Cain & Abel but there were civilizations around before the bible. An eye for an eye (hammurabi's code) for example.

Well, damn! Wasn't it when Cain slew Abel? 'Course then his god asked him where Abel was, which always confused me because I thought he was 'sposed to know everything.
