My God I agree with you 100 %!!!!! I hate HATE HATE dvd's. VHS was wayyy better. DVD's scratch too easy and "fingerprint" and they are just too sensitive! I still can't believe they actually quite making vhs tapes!!!!

yup, vhs is a way better system. I know its obsolete and all, but the vhs system is very reliable and doesnt skip, freeze, etc.
the only catch is that the system and the tapes are quite big, but as for durability, clearly the vhs is the winner.
I have gone through a whole lot of dvds that dont play anymore when it gets a scratch.
i hope the new generations of video machines, blu ray, or hddvd would be like the vhs in durability.

I used to think that vhs players were the best thing in the world before the dvd player hit the market...I mean I never had a problem with my vcr player, but dvd's give you so much more, like bonus features and better picture quality. Plus I hate the hassle of having to rewind the movie every time you wanna watch it again, so I'll have to say dvd over vcr.

i had over 200 vhs tapes, but had to throw out some because they started deteriorating. Then again, a few of them have gone through hell as well and play just fine. I prefer dvds because even if you have to rewind or ffrwd a bit, the chapter selection takes some of the guess work out of it...and I like to watch the special features!

I HATE VHS! Call me lazy but I HATE to sit there and wait on it to rewind! With a DVD you can pick the spot you want to start at and with a VHS you've gotta either remember the time that a scene happened, or search blindly for it! Plus, you never have to have two DVDs, unless you've got bonus features. With a VHS, the longer movies, like Pearl Harbor for instance, were sold in two installments! ARGH!

Good points -- DVD's do have their faults. However, I like that they are smaller & easier to store, and, more importantly, they are almost all that's available. In fact, I sold my VCR when I migrated out of the states, and cannot find one where I live now (Jamaica). I did save my favorite videos, but they lie useless on my shelf. On the other hand, I can watch DVD's on my pc even and they are easy to get -- cheap and available on the streets here. So . . . I'll vote for DVD's, although I wish I could still have VHS.

Shhhh! I've been saying this same thing privately for several years. Just don't say it so loud. VHS is dirt cheap. I can go to Amazon and buy movies for a buck on VHS. If others begin to catch on that DVDs are a bit of a scam, those VHS prices will begin to rise.

You raise some good points. However, if handled and cared for correctly, DVDs are better. VHS tapes actually stretch after several uses. You can't save it to DVD as far as I know unless you have it done professionally or own the expensive equipment yourself. DVDs will last forever if, like above, they are handled carefully.

DVD all the way! The picture and sound quality far exceeds that of VHS. I still have some VHS stuff, but I am slowly copying them to DVD.
