You can buy it from Costco, sure. Costco just orders it straight from HP themselves. But you may get a better price from Costco because they get bulk discounts from HP while a single person wouldn't get that discount.
It's still an HP computer, which along with Dell and Lenovo are high quality laptops. It will come with a 1-year parts/labor warranty just like any new HP computer. Extended warranty normally isn't a good idea because computer values go down so quickly as technology is replaced very quickly.

Costco is an excellent place to buy because they have a great no questions return policy.

Great price for an excellent computer. I personally do not go for extended warranties, too much cost and you will probably want to buy a new one in 2 or three years. You already get one year from HP.

You made all the right choices to upgrade. You can add some more RAM later at a much lower price.

Yes Costco would be a good place to make a purchase like that. Those features listed a good, and your computer will be quick. I have an HP with very similar features and it never slows down.
I wouldn't recommend buying the extra warranty unless you are going to be rough with it, which i'm sure you're not.
HP has their standard 1 year warranty. It great. I dropped my HP notebook and now the screen flickers. So I just contacted HP and they sent me a box with prepaid postage via FedEx. Just send it in and they'll go from there. It takes approx 5-7 days for the repair. It's at no charge to you.

Costco's standard return policy on computers is different than everything else but its still great compared to anywhere else.
My friend got a really nice laptop from there lastyear for what I felt was a good price.
I rarely ever go for the extended plans, except in rare circumstances. But its up to you, but if it was me I would only if the cost didnt exceed 10% of the price at most.

An extended warranty will give you the liberty to get anather computer should the one you have goes bad. That will be like an upgrade because technology changes every 3mths. The specifications you listed are very good if you want to use for school or even multimedia usage. Good luck

Costco is a good place to buy electronics. A computer gets out of date so fast, the extended warrantee doesn't make a lot of sense.
