I don't know about "retience," but "reticence" means "the trait of being uncommunicative; not volunteering anything more than necessary."
It can also mean "reluctance."
Reticence as also been defined as being "inclined to keep one's personal affairs to oneself. "

The girls' reticence made it difficult to determine what she was feeling.
