97 Ford Taurus, 3.0 6 cyl. I have replaced the coil pack and all plugs and bought the most expensive wires but the #2 has burns in it. I have replaced this one wire several times and it isn't touching the motor or anything. I takes about a month after replacing for me to notice the engine is running a little rough so I check the wires and again it is the same one.

this wire is in the back of the engine and the burn is about 1" up from the plug. I just checked and don't see and evidence of liquids or exhaust leaks near it.

Follow up on what Ben H, Ron B and Dodge Man have suggested. If still not able to trace the problem of the repeated #2 wire failure, try a tubular type housing shield for the outside of the wire, in other words, install the wire through a piece of vacuum hose or garden hose.

It is possible for the wire to get burned without touching the engine. You may have an exhaust leak that is blowing hot exhaust gasses on the wire.

Look around for an oil leak that is misting or actually leaking onto it. Oil steam will burn in the heat of the motor, and will even ruin silicone covered wires.

electrical components can come out of the box f-c-k-e-d up you can do bench check but not real accurate check it under heat i.e.normal operating temp. and under normal load i.e. hot if that checks out check hot wire to ground i.e.short
best time is in total darkness engine running look for spark
is wire solid core or fiber makes difference
solid core has never failed us good luck hope this helped you
