Well, at first it is really hard not to talk to that person, but that is the best time to stay completely away from them, because it is to easy to fall back into the same trap that you just got out of. After a while, if you feel comfortable, you can start talking to that person again as a friend. Some of my best friends are my ex's. They know me really well, and we get along great as friends.

If you really wanted to break up and the relationship was toxic, then yes. I was very relieved when my ex and I split up and I didn't have to talk to him everyday. It was such a relief.
