I have seen kids here who spent a whole month and a half writing their books. I assure you it takes a lot longer to write anything of value. Most authors probably spend three months or so just on the prep work - the outline, character studies etc. From there it depends entirely on how fast you write and how long the actual manuscript ends up being. Of course once you have finished it, that is just a first draft. You will need to do at least one more draft before passing it on to an editor to get in shape for sending queries to publishers and agents. That is where a good book becomes a great book -- a book you can sell. Good luck. Pax - C.

30 days to 3 years... it all depends really on what you say is a good book - and how long you take on your research time, how complex your characters are, and the complexity of the story itself.

Also depends on how long it takes you to edit till it's as great as it can get. You might write in in 30 days... but then you spend months editing it. Or you might spend a month or two writing and find you don't need much edit time.

There is no set time.

Lots of things go into it. But a good way to make sure it goes smoothly is to thoroughly plan out your book and have a good idea where it's going. It took me six months to write a rough draft of about 150 pgs, and that was moving quickly because I knew where the story was going. Another one has taken me well over a year because I got writers block.

Depends on how fast you write, whether or not you suffer from writer's block, if you have problems trying to figure out what you want to say (where you're trying to get just the right words for the scene), how much time a day you give yourself to write, and how much time a day outside sources actually give you to write (like if you've got folks who keep interupting you while writing.)

There is no one answer to this question. It depends on how long and how often the writer worked on it until it was finished. Why don't you start writing, then you will find out.

it depends on the amount of work you put into your writing. It could take as long as a year, it could take as little as 6 months. It just depends on how hard you're willing to work for it.

Whether my book is good or not is not really up to me. Of course every author feels that their book is good, but mine took 13 days to write. JULY 1st-July 13th

Well, I can tell you it won't be 20 minitues! If you really dedicated yourself to it probably about 3 or 4 months. If you didn't, well... I can't tell you.
