I'm travelling from North America to Delhi during end of July. I've booked a hotel in Connaught place due to reccommendations, but exactly what is Connaught place? Would it have salwars,saris,shoes and purses? Like the ones they sell for $100 in my country? Is it like a mall or an open market? Is it safe to shop? Any tips?

to sum it up Connaught Place is like downtown Delhi, it has all big bldgs, offices of some really big companies, one way streets, parking chores and a lot of places to shop around.
You will find a lot of brand name shops in that area however do try going to Janpath, its just half a mile away from CP aka Connaught Place. You will find authentic traditional clothes, fancy stuff etc. Word of caution, bargain a lot. These people make a lot of margins on all these products, so just bargain.
PS: Reduce the price in half of what they first quote to you, they will make a sad face however will come running to you then. Enoy the trip

it's in a shopping area of Delhi not far from the grand bazaar, it's where you'll find the "western" style shops and restaurants. a great place to escape when the Indian culture gets too much.
