I am so sorry to hear you fear spiders, altho I realize it is common. Spiders are probably one of the most misunderstood species that is so common in our environment. They get a very unfair rap. But firstly, understand that you are in good company bc it is a very common phobia. I do not know where you live, or what your climate is, or what the structure of the room is where you hope to make spider-free. Many variables here prevent me from giving you the best answer for your specific needs. I will tell you, as a biologist and an arachnologist, you will neer completely rid your environment totally of spiders. It is not possible, nor is it good to do. What you will be left with will far exceed the occassional spider visitor. Here is what I need to know to help you the best. You can respond via email or add details to your question here.
1. What country/state are you in?
2. What is the climate- cool, warm, dry, humid, rainy- etc.
3. Where is this room? Basement, upstairs, etc.
Are there windows, closets, etc. Is there furniture? Stuff beneath the bed or other furniture?
4. What is the building made of? Bricks, wood, etc...
5. and lastly, do you live near water, near rocks? in the woods or city or suburbs? Do you live near the beach? etc.

The more you can tell me about your environment the better I can help you. And I am happy to do so- because if you do not want spiders near you, it is best to keep them out. Killing them is not your answer, I promise.

I too am severely arachnophobic...it has actually kept me from visiting the midwest US as tarantulas are an indigenous species in that area. Keeping the space in question compulsively clean & well trafficked may help as spiders tend towards quiet areas with lots of hiding spots....also a regular wiping down of the walls with a 20% ammonia/water solution may help...i've been told this keeps all manner of insects out of the garage...so i also use this trick about 4 times a year in my house & i've only had 2 or 3 incidences with spiders in my house in the last 4 years.....a mate who is not at all scared off spiders is also handy to keep around

Keep insects out of the room for starters. Like my tub of crickets attracts spiders every now and then. Also, they are tend to be drawn to moisture in the house as there is no way for them to get a drink when they are in walls or on ceilings. So they go for bathrooms, kitchen sinks, etc.

Sometimes you just can't help to have spiders in your room. I personally love spiders. More legs to love!! :D

I kid you not. Chestnuts. Place them in the corners or other inconspicuous areas of the room. I was skeptical myself until I saw them in a few peoples houses and asked if it really worked. They replied yes. They were told there is a noxious odor to spiders that chestnuts contain that keeps them at bay. They still got one or 2 spiders but consdering they used to have LOTS, I'd say it works pretty good.

Best way is to avoid any dust accumulation in the house.
let the Sun and fresh air enter the house daily and regularly.
Vacuum not only ground and carpets, but also around windows, walls celling corners, and furniture 2 times weekly.
Ask pharmacy about suitable spray to get red of eggs also.

spiders "taste" with their legs, and they HATE lemon. Get some lemon oil or even a green bottle of ReaLemon juice from the grocery store and spray it all around the windows, the door cracks, and any cracks around the baseboards, Repeat about once a week. They will not cross the lemon barrier.

I used to be arachnaphobic as well and there were spiders everywhere.
But instead of trying to keep spiders out I simply cured the phobia. Now, surprisingly, I don't see any spiders at all in my home.

i think the best thing to do ....is let let pest patrol people spray ur house every month like at the bottom of walls and the ceilings so spiders and insects and other arthropods cannot enter and invade your privacy and make you feel uncomfortable. Trust me on this one. I do it and it works!

Don't be afraid (I know that's easier said than done). Spiders are very beneficial. They eat all the other pests we hate in our houses like flies and gnats and mosquitoes. Just work on ways to overcome your fear.

All you have to do is step on them. Once you do that you'll feel the power and the next time you see one you won't be afraid of them because you'll know that you are the superior species! Good luck.
