Yes it will use a little more gas I dont care what anyone says but it does use more gas. You wont be able to see a big difference in mileage. I would much rather run the a/c and put a gallon of gas more in the tank during the entire summer rather than be hot and miserable.

Yes, you do. AC pumps, when running, rob you of 20-25 HP just to turn the pump under load.

However, If you are driving on a freeway, you may as well use the AC unless you drive without AC and the windows rolled up. When the windows are down on a car (at higher speeds), the wind drag effect pretty much cancels out any HP loss from using the AC.

Yes, it does use more. Simple physics mandates that it must. Anything that is powered by the engine, places a load on the engine that requires it to burn more fuel to pull that load. That includes the alternator, the engine driven cooling fan, the power steering pump and the air conditioner compressor.

No I am fanatical about checking gas mileage, I live in Georgia and run the ac all summer long. My mileage in the summer is the same as what I get in the winter. Modern engines alter their timing to compensate for the extra power needed and it does not consume extra fuel

Yes, of course, the energy to run the A/C is coming from the gas.

If you are going faster than 50 mph, you save energy by having the A/C on rather than the windows open. The drag caused by the open windows is more than the cost of the A/C.

Wrong...Using the A/C will actually use more fuel. When you do turn on the A/C, the computer will compensate by having more fuel added, due to the load your engine now has to turn. And you can see your mileage decrease somewhat too. Hope this helps, good luck.

The A/C compressor draws power from your engine, resulting in greater fuel useage, possibly in the range of 10%-25% greater, depending on how hard it has to work.

yes your going to use a little more gas when it on,but not enough to make that much of a difference ,id rather use the air,and be comfortable than do without it,especially with the way the temperatures are this summer, its not going to cost you that much more, good luck hope this helps.

it does make the engine work harder which would use a little more gas. but the tiny bit of gas it uses wouldn't make a difference considering the benefit of not having a heat stroke.
