I had a pillow that was very dirty and to wash it I used a hem remover available at a fabric store, very carefully removed the stitching and put the insides of the pillow in a large plastic bag, washed the outside in the washing machine, air dried it and then put the insides back in and with a sewing machine stitched up the opening. What a difference. It even smelled good.
