Different sized shoe, same size feet?

Question

I'm a size 11 (12 US) and my friend is a size 9 (US 10).

You would assume that my foot is bigger, but on holiday last week our shoe size came into conversation and we found out that our foot length is the same. But my average shoe size is 2 sizes bigger, which to me is odd. Another friend is a size 9.5 and my foot is bigger than his, and same goes for another who is a size 10.

Am I wearing shoes that are too big (Though they fit fine) or does my friend just simply like to wear shoes that are too tight for him, I tried a size 9 the other day and it was too small. Maybe it just could be the brand.

Sizes vary a lot, from one manufacturer to another and even different styles from the same manufacturer. And some people like shoes looser or tighter than other people prefer. Just be sure to try on any shoe before you buy -- the actual shoe, not another that says it is the same. If it's comfortable for you, then it's fine. If it feels too loose or too tight for you, don't buy it even if the label says it is the "right" size.

Some guys are trying to compensate for something when they wear shoes that are way too big. Or, some overweight dudes have chubby feet, and they can't get a shoe that goes high enough, so they have to just get a bigger shoe. Yeah, my friend wears a size 13, and he is overweight, but his feet are the same length as mine. I used to think I should wear 9.5's, but my true shoe size is actually 8. I used to get terrible blisters after a game of b-ball, but now that I have fitted shoes my feet are fine.

all shoe brands are different in their sizes. I am a 13 year old boy and I wear 15's. I wear a size 13 shoe for dressier occasions.

Most likely it is the brand. I wear 11 US, but some 12s fit me and some 10s fit me.
