if at a friend's house, I sit down. If in a public toilet, I put toilet paper on the seat, but I still hover.

I sit. But before I do so, I first wipe the seat with toilet tissue, then lay down toilet tissue and then place a toilet seat cover on top of the tissue. Poop away.
