Would you buy a bag like some of these celebrities do for thousands of dollars (eg. Burberry). I think it's silly to pay $3,000 for a bag!

I'm not into expensive purses. I won't pay more then $25 for a purse. Most of mine cost somewhere around $12 and I love them!!

Fifteen bucks, and I haven't got over it yet. For the last few years I get my bags at the good ole Salvation Army. I picked up a fabulous green and pink suede little job couple of weeks ago with a cute matching coin purse and a magnetic clasp. Perfect match for an outfit of mine. The magic price dollar fifty.
Even if I had a spare thousand or so bucks, you can bet I wouldn't be so retarded as to spend it on a purse. There's a huge market in fakoes these days, so who the heck would be able to tell anyway?
Besides that, I'm not so pitifully shallow that I would want to be "admired" or "envied" for nothing more substantive than an overpriced carrying device to tote my bits and pieces around in. And that's really all it's about - wanting to make others envious that you can afford to pay that much for something so unimportant ----- and more likely than not you couldn't come close to being able to afford it in the first place.

The most I've paid was over $300. As far as what celebrities buy, it depends because they have an image to live up to. People don't realize how much money they have to spend to stay in the celebrity life. Particularly nowadays when material things are what seem to matter to most. I think the trend in excess started about 20 years ago, in the eighties but it has really gotten out of hand. You'll find that many celebrities are in financial trouble. Another thing to consider is that they actually don't have to pay for everything that they have (and still they get in financial turmoil!). Many companies give them the items so that they'll be seen with them and us average Joes and Janes will want to buy them.

CheerChick: Where did you score a Dooney for $95? It's not one of those colorful ones, right? If not, please let me know because I love a bargain and it seems like Dooney is finally coming around again with their designs. For a while there it looked like they made their bags at the clown emporium!

Carly: I see your point but the reason that expensive accessories became so popular over the last 10-15 years is that the clothes we wear are less expensive and, yes even celebrities, are wearing inexpensive clothes. Jeans and shirts from the Gap, etc.. Also, because dress is so casual now, they became a status symbol to differentiate oneself as still being able to afford the best and to signal that the casual clothes is a choice. Someone actually studied the previous.

The most I paid for a bag is 75 dollars. I couldn't seeing myself paying anywhere from a $100-thousands over a handbag just because it is a name brand designer. There are plenty of great handbags that cost much less and last longer.

The most I have ever paid was $100 for a very good backpack. Since I got it, my back has stopped hurting from carrying so much weight. I am a guy and never have bought a purse.

A leather padded Brief Case comes to mind.... $120.00 a real bargain at the time, but still, I found a waist of money. Purses maybe up to $60. Shoes/boots, however, up to a couple of hundred, maybe a little more.

I think you must have an expensive purse in mind to buy. Don't feel guilty... just buy the darn thing. Its what you want. You will love it; and if you think it is really beautiful, you will feel great every time you use it.

Go for it girl.

Good Luck.

Here's what cracks me up. When someone pays $1800 for a purse and then has on a pair of $30 shoes. So uncool.
No... I do not waste money on a purse that says " Hey look at me!"

I would never pay more for a handbag than I would have in it on an average day! People who spent hundreds on a bag and have no cash are ridiculous.

I get good bags on sale or at outlets, $75 max.

I think the highest I ever paid for a bag was $40.
That was back in the early 80s.
I guess it costs a lot more now.

Well, it is stupid and yes, I have paid a little more than that amount for a handbag and wallet.

It is the only purse however, that has lasted me quite awhile. My husband did it though, so blame him!
