Because it's their civil duty. Don't you want to have some say or influence on how our country should be run? Don't you think it's important to be part of it, at least you can say "I tried" if the outcome isn't in your favor. Hypothetically, if you have a certain political viewpoint that you share with 150 million people, and none of you decide to vote. While you totally oppose the other viewpoint held by the other 150 million people, but they are all willing to vote. Guess what happens!

Although, I do recommend learning about some basic politics, find out what you believe in politically and what the candidates stand for. Look at both sides of each argument to see which you think is best, instead of just following what is popular or what MTV or hollywood has to say. Which, unfortunately happens all too often. I was guilty of doing so when I was younger, and I see many young people I know falling into the same trap.

If candidates "rarely do anything to help (young people) in the present", perhaps it's because young people aren't voting. It's your country, state, county, city, province or parish. If you don't vote, you'll have no say in deciding your future.

Having said that, after reading the answers on Yahoo! Answers in the Politics & Government section, I'd favour *raising* the voting age to something like 25. It scares me to read what the uninformed kiddies think about politics.

If it were possible, I'd also make an IQ test and a knowledge test necessary before people voted.

Everyone needs to vote. Young people need to learn as much as they can about the candidates and the issues. They're going to be living in the results of the election, maybe for a very long time.

Everyone should vote - this is the right and privilege of living in a democracy. People have fought and died to win this right, which you should never take for granted.

Your vote is your way to influence your government. You are responsible for what kind of government you will have. Being apathetic and doing nothing will get you nowhere. It's your choice.

Voting is a waste of time these days. The only thing they do is
make promises that they know won't go anywhere. A politician
is nothing but a lying mistake looking for a place to happen.

We should have professional civil servants on the payroll and the public should be required to vote on all issues that are pertinent to them, and the civil servants must be required to act and respond accordingly by law. When they remove all possibility of gain from politicians then it just becomes another job opening.

Because you are deciding the future of your country.

The young people get older and complain about their country being is such bad shape but it is really their fault for not getting out and voting early on in their life.

Actually voting for more local offices impact you moreso than national offices. My governor controls my college tuition rates, the sales tax I pay, etc.... My mayor and city council people fix the roads I drive on, attempt to control the crime in my area, etc. When you think about it, govt affects you a lot more than you realize.

No one who hasn't examined the issues and candidates should vote. But age is irrelevant to this.

If young people don't vote we will be stuck with the same old codgers year after year after year. Nothing will change at all.
