I can agree with your premise about MTV, etc. and the soul of music.
The bottom line on here is that it's Yahoo's call.

Music belongs to art,in my opportunity, but it is made to art depending on WHO and HOW the musician (he/she) presents it. Nowadays there are more and more people calling themselves musicians without being real musicians. Of course, every person might have his own opinion about a specific kind of music, but today ,when it comes to singers, it is more important how a person looks, how much money he/she has,and how naked he (mostly she^^) is; than how well he/she can sing. Sadly, many great singers with great voices do not have an opportunity to show how excellent they are at what they are doing, and give space to people who have great contacts (familiar, friendly or physical^^),money,or a family member in the same business.
For me a real musician (great singer) is a person, who does what he loves to do more than anything, what he/she thinks of when he/she wakes up in the morning, and most of all, does it better than everything else (or everyone else :) and really worked hard to become successful and deserves his /her success -
for me, that is ART.

Huh? Who says music isn't art? Music's a beautiful part of life that seasons the moments of the day with a sense of wonder and astonishment.

No. "Music" as "Art" must by and large meet one critical criterion: it must withstand the test of time. The only music besides classical that has done that is Jazz, which is the only art form invented in America.
BTW, "Rap" is not music. It is also not "art"

Only in the mind of Simon Cowell. Go down to the USC music center on Sundays and you'll know music is alive and well.

In some sense yes. I guess the finesse previuosly associated with music has been tarnished if not disabled. Sorry for the loss.

maybe because music itself is such a broad topic and that there are a ton of genres that it would be easier to not have it in the arts section.
i believe it should be in the arts section though, my sister is a professional pianist afterall. :)
