So I ended up seeing the movie today and I got to thinking about something that I hadn't thought of with the book. What house would Umbridge have been in when she was in school? She certainly seems a lot nastier in the book than the movie (and she certainly was nasty in the movie though I don't recall her admitting to sending the dementors after Harry) and would seem to fit the comment about not a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin. But she seems very loyal to Fudge (I personally believe it's more out of the fact that if he's removed she may loose her position as Undersecertary to the Minister) and loyalty was something the Sorting Hat said was a feature of Hufflepuffs in the first book. Though she doesn't fit the just part at all.

Personally, I think Slytherin from her actions and the way she treats non-wizard magical beings, but she could have been in a different house. What do you folks think?

Also in the book she seems to just pick Slytherin's for the Inquisitorial Squad unlike the movie where she asks for anyone to join the squad. She just selcts folks in the book before anyone even hears of the squad for the first time. Seems like a former Slytherin would go for someone from their own house for something like that before anyone from a different house would even be considered.

Umbridge is a horrible and disgusting woman.
She's a spineless coward, so not Gryffindor.
She's not exactly ambitious, is she? So I don't think Slytherin'd take her.
She's also a bit of a dolt. Too thick for Ravenclaw.
Helga Hufflepuff would have taken anyone into her house, so I'm saying that's where she would've been.

i'm sure it's Slytherin.. she was very biased about "mudbloods" and other magical creatures (like the centaurs) and you're right, in the book, the Inquisitorial Squad were all Slytherins too..

She is a horrible woman, and I think she would have fitted in Slytherin house perfectly..

Maybe Hufflepuff, she is loyal but just to Cornelius Fudge. But I think she has a good chance in Slytherin.

Ravenclaw or Slytherin

Well, everyone in Slytherin ends up working for Voldemort. She doesn't work for Voldemort (as for as J.K. Rowling tells us) but she is just very nasty and sick. So I think she would be in Ravenclaw, because she is not brave like Gryffindors and DEFINENTLY not loyal like Hufflepuffs.

I'm going to say Hufflepuff. They take everyone that doesn't fit in any other house.
