Yes, the fluttering is the baby.
Yes, going down from 40 to 5 cigs a day is an improvement! Good job! As long as you can get it down as much as possible (or even to smoking NONE) within your 1st trimester, it shouldn't hurt the baby nearly as much as it would in the 2nd or 3rd trimester. You might even feel that cigarettes will start to make you sick...
Good luck!

You are doing a great job. Just a thought though, my wife (23 years old 2nd pregnancy) was a pack a day smoker who reduced to 4 cigs a day for the first 5 months. then she gradually came back to about a 1/2 a pack a day by the end of term. (She also did the same for the first)
Her doctor recommended that she not quit completely, because the stress of withdrawal could prove fatal to the pregnancy. She has a history of miscarriages (2).
Just to give you a context. In actuality only low birth weight has been proven to be a direct link to smoking during pregnancy. Although smoking does increase the odds on possibly having your child develop birth defects, nothing has been directly linked to smoking.
Hope this helps, and Congratulations!

2 packs a day is a lot to wing from. But try to remember that there is an innocent baby in your belly whos health is at risk. hopefully that will help you with stopping those last 5 ciggs a day! Maybe smoke one less a day. and after the 5th dayyou will have none. take a liking to something healthy for your baby, like carrot sticks, or other veggies / fruits...
Good luck, and congrats!
oh and the flutters is probably just increase blood flow. you wont feel baby until you are about 18-20 weeks :)

You won't feel the baby for awhile. Don't know about the flutters. Congrats on cutting down. That is a serious improvement!! Given how much you smoked, I would also recommend that you find alternative healthy habits for those times you used to sit down and light up. Otherwise you will be tempted again to light up. Good luck!

You're doing wonderful! Keep it up!!!
The feelings you're having are not from the baby moving. He/she is way too small and "tadpole'ish" for that yet. Give it another 10-15 weeks. The feelings are most likely from your uterus changing, shifting fluids, stretching ligaments, and your bowels distending. It's very typical in the first trimester, esp if this is your first pregnancy. And it could be gas - that is a def symptom of pregnancy.
Congrats!!!

It's great that you are going to quit. Your doing good. It's too early to feel the baby flutter though, so you might want to get an ultrasound done.

you are doing great, keep it up for your baby and for you!!! The feeling is from the stretching of the uterus and increased blood flow to the uterus. You will not feel the baby for about 10 more weeks. Congrrats!

You are way too early in your pregnancy to feel anything from the baby.
