I have bad insomnia too. best to just take a warm bath right before bed, take a sleep aid, and lay down in a quiet, light-less room. another thing that causes insomnia, is anxiety. that definitely makes it worse.
for a sleeping aid, I recommend melatonin. no prescription, and, of course, it's non-narcotic, lol.
