Hey - for everything there is a season. The trick is apply the spectrum appropriately. A time to stand fast, and a time to bend a little. I time to be brave and advance, and a time to quietly retreat to fight another day, when they don't expect it. But I think the most useful device I ever found was ruthless. It clears the decks, and gets what must be done, done. It avoids more pain than it causes, if used appropriately. I suppose because it looks at all things without preconception, and calmly, like a pond undisturbed, one sees more clearly in ruthless. That's where I'd hope to be, most of the time. It seems to work for me and mine.
