Bush has said, more than once, that the decision to bring the troops home will have to wait for a new president.

The 'surge' is now six months old--and it's been the bloodiest six months since the invasion began. 'Benchmarks' were set, but NONE of them have been achieved. Iraq's new president has said he thinks the Iraqis can handle it now and we can leave as soon as we like. More than 80% of the Iraqi people want us to leave. More than 60% of Americans think we should leave now.

But Bush keeps saying it would be the easy way out to do what everyone wants him to do. He insists, as he always has, that we're making good progress.

I really thought Bush was going to start bringing troops home last year, in time for the election. I thought he would just declare 'victory' and start bringing them home. At least he would -announce- that he was going to bring them home, then after the election change his mind. But nooooo.

If he's stubborn enough to lose Congress, I don't think there's any way he's going to bring them home.

I really think his strategy now is to wait for the Democrats to take it out of his hands so he can then blame them for 'losing'. And for years the Republicans will say we were winning but the Democrats made us SURRENDER!

If the troops leave Iraq, there will be mass genocide going on. The radicals and the Sunnis will kill all the freedom seeking Iraqis. Imagine such a massacre (remember Rhwanda)

The war will continue no matter what the "real reason" might be, for many many more years, no matter who will be the next president.
It's not Bush's war, he's just the mouth piece. I wish people would look a bit more at the bigger picture.

I have 2 teenage sons and ponder about their future.

I have to be honest about this ,don't believe anything you here and half of what you see, I don't believe he will unless the voters let there Representatives know again what we want, we already have sent that signal to the congress and Senate by voting, in the 1960s & and early 1970s, everyone back then use to mass hundreds of thousands in demonstrations but now days i dont think the new generation has the guts or interest to do the same thing again, dont get me wrong im a veteran, i support the troops but how many have to die and get wounded, and have mental problems to get the american people motivated, we have a controlled press, that are scared to print the facts everyday until the congress, senate, and the white house cant take it anymore and buckel in to what the people want.

The man made a mistake based on a lie. The American People elected that man, twice, so we have ourselves to blame for any mistakes made.
I do not like war. Al'Quida is not in Iraq, well they weren't. We all agreed in a swarm of Patriotism that this war was ok. We all messed up there.
Now if we can get permission or just invade Pakistan and try and hang Bin Laden, cause people are now guilty as suspects and can be tortured or killed as suspected non combatants. Is this the America that our Moms and Dads fought for. I don't think so.
Is this the America that you want your children suspected to believe in. I don't think so.
Yes there are extreme Religious and Political nuts every century. There are also those that follow the nuts. Inactivity is worse than following a fool on a foggy path of war.
China made a BUNCHA $$s off USA when we bought all them flags in 2001, 2002,2003,2004, 2005 and stickers and buttons and party hats, Red,White and Blue for everyone.
We invaded the wrong place. Never should invade a Non Combatant country anyways.
Got that bad old man Hussein hanged good. And a buncha others, now because of our actions we have started or allowed a civil war of religion to spawn.
It is a no win situation.
Suunis take that side of the Euphrates, Shias take that side, Kurds get the North and any stragglers left over can have the south. Problem solved.
For now.
Everything is temporary except for Love,Compassion and Honor.
It is time for us to start living up to the Honor part.

This website is where I get my war news from:

http://www.mnf-iraq.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

This war is going to end when more stability enters that region. That is starting to happen now...civilian deaths are down 36% and we have been detaining and killing terrorists.

The media has painted a grim picture of this war...and it is grim, but there are a lot of good things happening over there. They show death and blood in the streets but don't show that children are going to school or people have jobs. There have been less and less terrorist attacks happening in Iraq since we stepped up our fight against these terrorists. Some people even think that the media isn't biased....they even think that Bush is controlling the media...if that were so, I think we would be seeing congress' approval rating (which is lower than the presidents) rather than the presidents every night.

I have friends that are fighting over in Iraq right now. I am very afraid for their lives, but they know what they are fighting for. A lot of soldiers, when they come back, are appalled at the media coverage of this war.

This war is being fought for the safety and security of the Iraqi people...if we leave before that job is finished, a lot of lives will be lost and all of lives that have already been lost will be for nothing.

Mr. Knowitall says that NONE of the benchmarks have been met, yet we have completed 8 out of the 18 benchmarks that have been set:

I think our troops are being used as decoys I'll explain. Bush keeps saying that to end the war would be a mistake and that things would become dire. Dire for who? Iraq maybe but thats not our headache is it? In a way yes because Bush dont want the terrorists coming to American soil to feed their hunger for our blood. So he feeds that need in Iraq insted. I mean lets face it. If 12 million illegals can cross our borders I'm sure some terrorists can. Now many of the children of Iraq are going to be brought up to hate us. So it looks like this hate of us is going to be an on going situation for a long long time to come and we mys well start to get use to it. God Bless the U.S.

What's 'going on' is that the Bush administration illegally, unconstitutionally, unjustifiably and immorally attacked another sovereign nation that in now way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States.
The Bush administration lied to its people and the Congress so that it could start this obscene war, all for the sake of a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein by the Bush family, a covetous desire to control all of that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands, and a need to allow government contractors to line up at the Pentagon's war trough and make billions off the gullible American taxpayer.
This evil administration has conducted its 'war' since the very first day, all for the sake of OIL and WAR PROFITEERING.
There never were weapons of mass destruction; Iraq never had any connection to 9-11; there never was any intent to bring democracy to Iraq; there was no objective to establish peace in the Middle East; there was no plausible reason to believe that our country was in danger of an imminent attack; and there no threat to national security.
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all their henchman conned America, Congress and soldiers into believing this fight was just and moral. Now we all know the truth.
Surely Satan has a special oil-soaked, blood-stained corner of Hell reserved for Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all 535 members of the most arrogant, greedy, cowardly, incompetent, contemptible, corrupt Republican-led U.S. Congress in history [which stood idly by and allowed Bush to violate our Constitution, disregard the UN Charter, ruin America's reputation as a global peacekeeper, and put aside the rules of the Geneva Convention] all so that 675,000 Iraqis and almost 4,000 U.S. soldiers could die for the sake of OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Such nefarious, iniquitous lack of responsibility must not go unpunished. These people deserve to be tried in an international tribunal for high crimes against humanity, and - if convicted - should hang just as they arranged to hang Saddam Hussein. -RKO- 07/14/07
