I have leather seats so it didn't settle as much as cloth would have, but I smoked in my car for maybe 4 months. I always left the window down, which did not help as much as I wanted it to. They sell all kinds of 'New Car' scents, but none of them actually smell like it and none of them stay. I have cleaned & conditioned my leather, even replaced the Air Cabin Filter in my car. What do you recommend. I just haven't found the right thing yet. Please help!!

An older gentleman at a local car wash was using rubbing alcohol on his dashboard and I had to ask him the purpose of it. He said he had a really good friend who was a smoker and he wasn't, so it was his remedy to get rid of the smell.
I don't know how effective or efficient it is, but it's worth a shot if you're desperate.

Your boyfriend sounds like a self indulgent jerk. No offense. However, if he was a real boyfriend, he would be happy that you have decided to protect your health and that you're more likely to live longer and he would respect your wishes. Let me ask you a question. Why doesn't he just avoid the issue by taking his own car? Could it be that he doesn't own one? And if not, why not? Is it because he isn't responsible enough to make the payments, or has a lot of debt, or whatever? Hum, that seems a little like a warning signal to me. Let me ask you another question. Will he smoke around your kids if you have any? In your house? Part of having a bad habit is being responsible with it. Does he respect anyof your wishes that cause him a bit of inconvenience? Or are you just a conveinet doormat who always aquiesses to his wishes? You seem like an intelligent woman who deserves a real, true love - someone who will respect you and encourage you in all your good endeavors and when they resist your ideas, it's because they don't think it's a good idea. I am a smoker, but, even if I idn't know you, I wouldn't smoke in your car if you didn't want me to. I would do everything I could to make sure you had the very best chance of remaining smoke free, I'd even carry around gum for when you were tempted. And I'm a totla stranger. You need to tell him that you quit smoking because you want to live longer, but you respect his right to smoke so he should do the same for you. And, if he can't abide with the rules, he needs to take his own car to work. And frankly, he chose to smoke, so no one owes him a warm place to do it. He needs to deal with the ramifications of his own decisions - in othe words, act like a man, not an eight year old. Tell him I said I smoke in the cold, because I made the decision, make the decision every day to smoke and that shouldn't be a burden on anyone else, particularly the people I love. If you don't put your foot down now, you're going to spend the rest of the relationship doing what he wants, because his whining (and it is whining) will only get worse. Good luck! And congratulations on your smoke free future!

I've never found a good "new car scent" However you can get rid of the smoke smell and get it to smell just clean and fresher. I found the perfect product for this and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a fragrance free natural carbon product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, pets, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just put a few in your trunk and also car. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and Internet. Also, Try customerservice@innofresh.com Definitely worth trying

Shampoo the carpet and clean the leather seats, dash headliner and anything else you can on the inside. You may also spray some fabreeze under the dash to help counter the smoke smell. Once all this is done, get a leather cream and conditioner and apply that to the seats. I know it makes mine smell like new again. good luck.

It is not the car, it is you. You gave up smoking hence slowly your smelling power started building up which you did not notice when you were smoking. After some time it builds up so much that if you smell the currency note you could easily notice where it has come from, from a perfumed purse, from donnor kebab shop or kentucky fried chicken shop. Passing through 20 ft away you could smell the kind of dirt on the road or foot path. If you still do not start smoking again you will be used to it after some time. It is just normal for any one packing up smoking, I did it myself twice, the same thing happened to me. So my dear friend, give some time, you will be alright at least you have successfully tried some thing, keep it up.

Big mistake to smoke in the car. You won't get your new car's smell back. You can get a clean smell by vac um the entire car, under the seats, every where. When you change your cabin air filter , sure deodorize the system too.

Well, I used to work with a detailer at a dealership, he always put a cut up onion in the vehicle and stated that it absorbed the smell. ??? Then the dealership bout a machine that fit in the window and ionized the air to eliminate the smell, and actually worked. But, on that basis, i purchased an item called an air ionizer that fit in my cig lighter. Actually worked, took about 3 days to work all the way. I bought another kind after the original one i bought blew the bulb in it, and the new one sucked. The style i originally purchased was silver, metal, and had a bulb that you could see. It glowed a bluish color when plugged in.

i paint cars in a body shop and sometimes our customers complain that there is a "paint fume" smell in their car upon delivery. so we put an electrical machine inside the vehicle called an ionizer. it seems to work on paint fumes....maybe worth a shot if these other ideas don't pan out. good luck!
