According to the American Red Cross CPR guidelines...

CPR in progress can be stopped ONLY if...

1. The victim's condition improves
2. An AED becomes available
3. You are relieved by another rescuer with more training
4. The scene becomes unsafe
5. You are too exhausted to continue.

You HAVE to have #5 in there- how can you possibly ORDER someone to provide CPR if they can no longer move on their own?

You understand, however, that exhausted means just that- NOT tired, bored, or winded.

Refer to grammy ss & ruth m.

I'm not going to say never stop, if your muscles give out then you have no choice, like ruth m said, you need to switch off often to prevent fatigue, if there are two of you I would recommend switching off every few minutes. I'm an E.R. R.N. and I've done C.P.R. often so I know how fatigued you can get and if you're not giving FULL compressions then the blood isn't circulating and guess what? The organs are not getting oxygen and they are going to die anyhow, BUT, if you're the only person on scene and there is no one else available, you can only do so much and reasonable people will understand that. Give it your all, that's all you can do.

You should not stop until the person responds or the ambulance gets there. If you have someone else around, ask for assistance.

in theory you are not allowed to stop, but if you are exausted, chances are your not really effective anymore so better stop, otherwise you might faint yourself... if there is someone there, it's really best if they can replace you...
the only legit reasons to stop CPR are:
1.a doctor announced death
2. someone replaced you
3. return of pulse.

no, you keep going, and rest in between compressions but keep going.
