It can be fixed, but you have to find where the water is coming from. Hopefully it's just an intake gasket, but it could be a head gasket and/or a cracked head. If it's below the intake it's going to get expensive. Get it taken care of before you lock up your motor.

When water is in your oil in generally means that you have a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder head. Both of these problems can be fixed, however, if the cylinder head is cracked then it will need to be replaced. The work involved in replacing the head gasket, if it is the problem, should definitely be done by a professional. Without knowing what year your Cadillac is, it is hard to give you a better idea about an average cost for repair. Good Luck!

Usually the oil cooler leaks. It is located in the valley of the engine. Not a fun job to do. They are a pain. I work at a Cadillac dealership & am sort of glad that there arent too many Cateras left on the road. No offense to you or your car, they were not the best car Cadillac has. Too much Opel & German crap in it & its not the good German designs either. But the oil cooler has more pressure than the coolant system so the oil will leak in the coolant but the coolant cant leak into the oil due to the oil side has more pressure. You may want to Google Engine Oil Cooler Replacement for your car & see what is involved. I suggest you replace both oil cooler & the coolant cooler as well. Those arent cheap either

Probably a Northstar engine. The Northstar is a super engine until it starts going bad, usually coolant leaks and seals in the intake assy. After it begins you may as well toss it into the ocean. The Northstar is so complex a rebuild kit isn't even available so you either buy another used one or a NEW one from GM. The problems with the Northstar have been present since it was introduced.Typical GM thinking is they feel it's cheaper to just keep producing defective units vs re-engineering the engine. Try a mechanic that has LOTS of experience with the Northstars -- could be some sort of non-GM approved 'fix' out there somewhere.

Ìf water is getting in the oil, in any car, it means that your Cylinder head gasket has gone. Unlikely to be a breach in the engine metalwork.
Do you have "Yoghurt" looking stuff on your oil filler cap?
If you just have the white spots on your dip stick, that could be condensation...but if the cap get's more than white spots....it's the gasket.

It's usually a head gasket. It can be fixed but will cost 700-1000 dollars assuming no other problems.
