People say Clemens is a better pitcher because of his win-loss record. Well, if Ryan had pitched for decent clubs, his win-loss would've been substantially better. He never really had a good hitting team behind him, until it was too late. It's like the year he went 8-16 w/the Astros. He lead the league in ERA and K's, but couldn't win because the Astros couldn't hit!!! I would take Ryan, everyday, and twice on Sundays!!!

You must be joking ?,Right ? Ryan is the most overrated pitcher in MLB history. Sure he's got the gaudy personal stats but he doesn't have the things that really count: ERA & WL %
Eliminate the gaudy personal baubles and compare him to Seaver or Gibson or even Whitey Ford.-no contest
Sorry but in a WS Game 7 ,I'll take Clemens and a lot of other pitchers before I would reach for Ryan

You couldn't go wrong with either of them. Just going on win loss records you'd have to go with Clemens with a career record of 350-182 with a winning percentage of .658 over Ryan who had a record of 324-292 for a .526 win percentage. When either of these two were on, they were unhittable, but when they were off, they could both get knocked around the park.

It's still Clemens, and it's still not close.
The pitcher's job is to prevent baserunners and prevent runs. Rocket has done a MUCH better job than Express did, both relative to his league (the annual, hermetic system), and in absolute terms. People who cannot see this are far too fixated on the popcorn stats; so decide if you want a meaningful answer, or merely a popular one.

Lets see here, Ryan is the All-time strike out king with 5714. Plus he was on the 1969 Amazing Mets World Championship team. Not to mention 7 career no hitters and 12 career 1 hitters. I gotta go with Nolan on this one.

In their prime, I would pick Clemens.
Over the age of 40, I would pick Ryan.
