You're kidding right??? There are examples of courage all around you. Maybe discuss the different types of courage or maybe even what exactly dictates or classifies an act of courage??? For example, a single mother who works all day, goes to school, and takes care of her child. She doesn't abandon her child and does everything for him. Many people might not consider that "courage",but why not??? Especially when you consider how many people today leave their children on the doorsteps of strangers and walk away.

Hooah's answer was exactly as I would have typed. My little brother joined the Army post 9/11 and spent a year in Afghanistan. It took courage to stand up, sign up, and fight for America. The soldiers who wake up everyday not knowing whether they will return that night to base are courageous. I don't think you'll have any problems dealing with this SAT topic. Just watch the nightly news for 15 minutes.

How about the courage to join the military during this time at war? How about every family member who have sleepless nights wondering if their soldier is ok while over seas? What about every police officer, fire fighter and other brave men and women who risk their lives day in and day out for the rest of the American population? Their families have tremendous courage too just being able to function as their loved one is off doing their jobs, the families had no choice in the matter but to sit back and watch them be brave.

We don't know how accurate this particular details account are, but we have confirmed that Brian Chontosh is real, that he did receive the Navy's second-highest award, the Navy Cross, that he did fight until running out of ammunition, and that he did kill 20 enemy combatants.

Terry Fox running across Canada on one leg, after losing his other leg to cancer. Today, the Terry Fox Foundation has helped provide research that has lowered the rate of leukemia (once an automatic death sentence) by 80%.
Another example: Rick Hansen circling the globe in his wheelchair (a two-year journey) to help raise awareness for spinal cord research.
