Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, I think, is the original singer.
A number of groups have covered this song including Bruce Springsteen, Little Big Town, Man (or He Man, I'm not sure), Cindi Lauper, Human Nature and Jackson Browne.

Well my favorite cover of it is by Jackson Browne. It's live and very good. I think one of the original singers comes out on stage and hits the high notes. Also the back - up singer has a beautiful voice.
