I've recently gotten Mollies for the first time and I am planning on adding them with my many female bettas. But since Bettas have a labyrinth gill and do not require a air filter, I do not have one for them. I'm unsure if mollies can also take air from the surface like bettas or do they need air filters.

Both types of fish will do best in a filtered aquarium. As long as you have adequate filtration, air pumps or filters are not needed.

mollies should have a filter and a heater. even if your tank is at proper temperature (between 75 and 80) a heater is important to keep the temperature constant. it is the sudden change in temp. that will kill a fish. and no mollies do not have a labyrinth gill like Betta's so they do not take air from the surface.

Yes you need an air filter for your mollies but not your female bettas... There is enough room for your fishies...

You need an airpump. Are you sure your tank is big enough to support all your fish?

The airflow from the pump could aggitate your bettas.....
