Whoever harmed her is to blame, but lets be honest, its very very unlikely Madeleine wouldve "vanished" from that room if her parents had not left her alone, so they are hugely at fault.

Can I ask all the Pro-McCanns, if Madeleine had wandered out of the room, went looking for her parents and fell into the pool, where she was found drowned by one of the parents, would you STILL not blame them? Or would you be saying "what a pair of IDIOTS...thats neglect, they caused her death!!!"

i know some people might find this shocking to believe how a parent can kill their beautiful child's like as i first heard the story i would have never ever thought Maddie's parent could do this but as time went on i changed my mind straight away i even posted a question on here regarding my feelings as i thought the parents know more then they are letting on and they could be to blame. the reason i thought that was 1.their body language and emotion they didn't seem to be letting on any emotions because i knew if a normal person lost their child they would be crying and crying and wouldn't be able to sleep or eat but Maddie's parent only shed a few tears and looked fresh and healthy like nothing had happened to them. 2.who on earth leaves their child alone in a foreign country with no one to looking after their 3 kids and even if they did why didn't they use the baby sitting service that was offered to them at the time. 3. if someone had broke in don't you think they would have took all the children and not just Maddie. i now not everyone will agree with me but i hope i have put across why i think Maddie's parent are to blame for her disappearance but we will all find out the truth and the end of the day.

Hi the obvious answer of course is the person that took her. Now we dont know who this person is. We hear so much, the McCanns say an abductor, but then we hear the Porty police call it a disappearance. Two different things.
Of course if she was snatched, then the person responsible is to blame. The thing is, when I had my two girls, I swore to myself, and them, that the one job I would fulfill would be to bring them up to an age of say 18, without being touched, by a pervert. I swore if I did that, I had done a good job by my kids.
Yes its a paranoid attitude, but my partner is a cop, and has seen the bad side of life. And I have heard it from him.

Anyway, in answer to the Q, I can only say that Kate and Gerry really could have avoided this, because they would have been so welcome as a family in the bar. The kids can drop off to sleep in the buggy, or on a parents knee. Its no big deal, the other parent goes to the bar for the drinks. I spent holidays with one permanently on my knee! I still drank a glass of wine, though.

Obviously, the other person to blame is the person that took her. But seriously, as a parent I will never be able to understand how they could have left theie children in such a vulnerable situation. The other thing I've wondered is all this support that they are getting, would it have been the same, if instead of being doctors, her parents had been your average checkout girl and her unemployed boyfriend.

It is easy to blame someone for taking her but if her parents hadnt left her alone on more than one occassion then (if she has indeed been abducted) they wouldnt have had the opportunity to carry out this crime.

They left her night after night in an unlocked apartment after knowing that a strange man was taking photos of her on the beach. They were meant to be on a family holiday with a large group where they could have easily shared the baby sitting rather than leave any children unattended.

I have never heard of parents wanting to leave their children in this way. It is neglect pure and simple and there will be questions asked if the mccanns are not investigated by the social services.

It is similar to the woman who said today it is Great America's fault that her 4 yr old drowned. No parents want to take personal responsibility for the 24/7 job of raising their children because it is a tough and important job. That is why in my perfect world only people with a license could procreate.

All involved are to blame for Madeleine's disappearance.

Middenraker I hope you do not mind me also posing a hypothetical question. I know I wont get any answers but it is just trying to make a bit of a point. It is only hypothetical and I do not have a sleepwalker and I do lock my doors at night but I do live on a road that is 55 mph with alot of heavy tractor trailer traffic in the late nights.

If my child is a known sleepwalker and I go to bed at night and leave all the doors wide open and he goes out onto the very busy 55 mph road that many large trucks travel on by night and a truck driver may have just worked 16 hours straight with no sleep.....this is a broken law working that long as a truck driver in my state....he falls asleep and does not see my child in the road sleepwalking..whose fault is it..mine for leaving the door open for my known sleepwalker to possibly go out or the truck drivers for not being alert and altering his log books so he can stay on the road longer.

To think these are two so called responsible and highly educated people who hold the health and welfare of people as paramount..in their professions....yet they discounted the cardinal rules of childcare. I wonder what would have happened if this had happened to an unmarried mum from an inner-city housing estate..I think we all know the answer to that.

Crikey. Robert C (who is a parent) is quite a frightening chap. A man among men.
But a charmer with the laydeez, obviously.
And he's a parent. (Did I mention that?)

Now, I've stopped trembling, I'd say the parents of Madeleine McCann will bear part of the responsibility because they neglected to care for their children properly. If there is an abductor, then that person will be more to blame - if blame can be divvied up like that.
(Don't hit me, Robert C. After all, you are a parent ...)

Due to the standing ovation given to McCann at the Police conference, due to the adulation of the Press and due to the interest of Gordon Brown I am beginning to wonder if not leaving your children unattended is an arrestable offence.
