Only if you want to use a floppy disk. Not being a wise guy but floppys are useful only for small amounts of data or booting a non-functioning system now days.
Newer systems can use a CD or a USB drive to boot if your hard drive is having problems so in a way floppys are passae.

Not really. You don't normally use floppy anymore now-a-days.
But if you are going to take some computer classes for Operating System and learn about it, you might need it. Other than that, there is no use of floppy when you can use USB thumb drives (some people call it flash drive)

Not really, unless you have some vital data stored on some floppy discs which you haven't transferred to newer media.

If you mean as a boot disk, no. Many computers today can use CD's as boot and recovery disks.
