This is a great time in your life for reading about men and women you admire -- their biographies, memoirs, and other writings. Such people could be sports figures, statesmen, writers, artists, or business leaders, for example.

It will be helpful for your high school and college success if you read widely and learn to write well.

where the red fern grows although i have not yet seen the movie if there is one. the wind blows backwards by mary downing hahn which has no movie but should. star of kazan by eva ibbotson which also has no movie. the old kingdom series/ trilogy by garth nix, at the current time i do not think it has a series of movies or even the 1st movie but scifi channel is supposedly makeing them or so i read. ella enchanted. i warn you though that if you have seen the movie staring anne hathaaway you should still read the book. it is not only better than the movie but is also very different. especially the romance and the ending and hattie and well everything. they practically rewrote it in the movie! the alice books by phyllis renolds naylor are exceptional and are about normal people which i think you'd like since you mentioned the sisterhood of the traveling pants. i like this author and she has another series which is my fav. it is called shiloh. that series has movies but the alice books do not.... such a shame! little women is a classic and has a variety of movies ranging from cartoons to actual films. huckleberry fin is good along with tom sawyer. i however do not recomend the clique books- too shallow 4 my taste hence i do not fancy them. there is a sequal to the sisterhood of the traveling pants. it is called summer of the 2nd sisterhood. i am sure yiou have already read eragon and hp so... um... lifetime women channel has good movies. there is one in particular about a girl named gracie but i fail to recall the name.

Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen...There is a mini series that was made by A&E/BBC that is amazing (starring Jennifer Ehle & Colin Firth).
Actually, any book by Jane Austen is a good choice.

The Anne Of Green Gables series is excellent. There is also a two part movie that is very good but doesn't always follow the books.

If you like Sci-Fi/Fantasy, books by Piers Anthony are a good bet. Also, i just recently discovered a book by an undiscovered author that is fantastic. It is called The Thirteenth Tale, by Dianne Setterfield, and it is really hard to explain what it's abouit, but it reads smoothly and has a "twist" ending. Give it a try!

Hemingway is easy to read. His short stories are his strongest. I was reading adult material at your age and if you are a good reader you should graduate yourself.

Also if you are more comfortable with a female writer I strongly suggest 'West With the Night' by Beryl Markham. She is the young flyer in the movie 'Out Of Africa' which I also recommend.

I think Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is a really good book. It shines a lot of light on discrimination for kids who are simply "different."
