Islam is so peaceful, yet they also carry out honor killings if a daughter so much as wants a divorce from her husband, or gets pregnant outside of marriage. They kill their own children over this stuff. I saw one sory, where the daughter got a divorce without the parents permission. So the father ordered his son to kill his sister to save the familys honor. He didn't, so the father hired people to kill him. The son survived a savage beating, not sure if the sister lived. Very sickening. I could never kill my kid nor any siblings of mine!
The war between England and the IRA was not about religion. It was about getting independance in N. Ireland from Britain. Yea one side happened to be mostly catholic and the other protestant, but that was not the conflict. It was over land control.

It's the same as some people, professing to be Christians, saying that everybody who is nice or good goes to heaven. It just shows that they haven't read the Bible. The muslims who say that they have a peaceful religion obviously haven't read the Koran, which calls for the killing of non-muslims in dozens of verses. I guess you could refer to them as MINOs - muslims in name only.
Linda, your misunderstanding of Christianity and the Bible is breathtaking. God is not behind the shooting of abortion doctors. While there are many televangelists who are con artists, they are faking their Christianity for profit. Your claim that the text of the Bible has been changed over the years for political reasons is 180 degrees off the mark.
Ask any bible scholar and they will tell you that the main translations adhere closely to the original text. Some modern "translations", like the Blue Jeans Bible and the "Oprah" Bible (just kidding) are not translations at all, they are pop versions and do not convey the original intent. Nothing has been changed, and the Bible is the inspired Word of God. You may not like it, but it's an unalterable fact.

those are people that have turned against the original values of their religion and skewed it to suit their own values. It happens alot and not just with religion.
Notice how anyone that has a peaceful revolutionary approach that they are killed?? Once the leader is gone then others can twist up that message to suit their own values and milk it for what it is worth.
Christians do it and sorry but as long as we have tv evangelists and christians shooting abortion doctors or skewing religious values to stage a war against gays and rock music and claiming to be pro life while encouraging war with muslims, I can't say they are any better. The problem is, sometimes it's hard to determine who is a preacher and who is a politician disguised as a preacher.
People that have a mix of spirituality with their religion and can tell the difference between a brainwasher and someone who wants to preach to them with no strings attached are doing just fine. There were so many things altered with the texts in the past to suit king's agendas. Taxation for example. God doesn't care about your taxes. Kings do though ;)

Any of these sky fairy theories of mumbo-jumbo do no more than keep superstitious nonsense afloat. Maybe they will evolve somewhat and their animosity may be reduced somewhat in 500 years but Christianity still contains a great deal. I would like to see religion eradicated in favor of logic and reason but that's not likely to happen anytime soon as there is still too much ignorance to accept truth and there are still many who need a "crutch" to survive. I don't trust any of the emotional hallucination believers including the rapture rights.

Was the insurgency in Ireland a religious war -- Protestant against Catholic? Or was it an attempt by one political group (who happened to mainly be one religious faction) to suppress or escape from a different political group (who happened to be the other religious faction)?
The conflict between the Sunnis and Shiites is as much about politics and culture as it is about religion.
But also look at the timing. Islam is about 1300 years old. Back in the 1300s (when Christianity was that age) it was just as violent about destroying any rival beliefs. Anyone remember the Crusades, or the Inquisition?
So, in 500 years, Islam may have outgrown its violent stage, leaving only a few fanatics, the way Christianity has.

Well, not labeling all Muslims here, but for a religion of peace they sure did a mess of violence after those Mohamed cartoons and when the Pope said that Islam wasn't a peaceful religion. Just my two cents.

The violence has nothing to do with being Muslim. That started only 1400 years ago and they have been killing eachother for over 7000 years, when Zargon the Great of Mesopotamia started the first Professional Army.
As for the Christians of the Middle Ages? That had nothing to do with Religion, they were fighting the Moors for control of Land. The Persians began their westword expansion 1000 years befor Christ, and they had been fighting ever since.

American Muslims, the ones we talk to and say "Oh, but they're so peaceful!" are different than the Muslims over there. Our Muslims tend to just dislike us, and grumble a lot. The rest of the world's Muslims hate us, and bomb us a lot. So Americans have a very wrong idea about what Muslims are REALLY like... the rest of the world's Muslims tend to look down on our Muslims anyway; our Muslims aren't militant enough for them.

At least Fox ran the documentary that PBS paid to produce and would not show. It gave the Muslims that oppose the radicals a long overdue to be heard voice.

If you're taking the liberty to invite more Muslims into this country, don't represent me when you do it. We have too many here already, and I haven't met one yet
that I could feel comfortable, in being around.
