If you divide the US into three classes by income, upper, middle, lower, and you draw the lines so as to divide the population into thirds, the middle group's income has been increasing steadily for the last quarter century.

If you divide the US into three classes by income and set the bars as a function of income levels (e.g., some economists use 2X and 5X the poverty level as the boundaries of the 'middle class' but the below is true regardless of where you draw the lines):

The upper class is growing in proportion to the whole

The middle class is shrinking in proportion to the whole

The lower class is about the same size relative to the whole

Given that most immigration is from poor countries and we've had an explosion of immigration in the last quarter century, that means:

The once rich are still rich

Many in the middle class have moved up

The lower class is moving up too but being replaced at the bottom by new immigrants

Why is that bad????

dolleyemu - I'll stop repeating the truth when you stop repeating the lies.

Bob, analyze the above, you're wrong, the numbers show the opposite of your assertion. The middle class are moving UP, and that's been the trend for the last quarter century.

It is bad that the bottom is being replaced because there are people who will see them and the bottom and feel they are entitled to what those at the top have (Liberals). They will steal what others have made and give to those at the bottom so that they continue to have political power and backing and don't have to work a real job.

Most people don't realize that communism has rich people too. Those at the top politically have much more than the rest! The more poor, uneducated influx; the more these people can appeal to. Socailism does not work due to human flaws!

-That's pure political propaganda! There are examples all over the country of those without that have made it to the upper class. same with the move from lower to middle class. That's the whole point of a free country. If you work hard and have a good head on your shoulders, you can make a better life for yourself and your family. I'm living proof! Don't believe the lies the DRIVE-BY MEDIA wants you to believe (along with liberals).

Middle class are moving down in the United States. A significant Middle Class is necessary to support Democracy. Look at the class distribution at Mexico City, Mexico. That is a realistic possibility for the United States by the year 2035.

Blaming the 'rich' in general is stupid. Democrats send all the decent paying jobs out of the US, keeping most Americans in minimum wage jobs. Cost of living goes up each year at double what companies can afford with annual pay increases. If democrats have any brains they'd take a pay cut, or pay us all the same pay they get roughly an hour. The 'healthcare reform' is a joke. Why not give all americans free health/medical coverage, like all congress gets since the 1980's. Aw, I guess that'd dent the ol' Ted Kennedy alcohol account. Democratic economics is like miles of laughs

Because it is not proportional. The legal immigrants that were replacing the lower class are now replaced by illegals. Millions of them. It has to have a action, reaction effect on class structure

THANK YOU! Finally someone who get BASIC economics.

Also consider that the upper 10% of money earners pay over 64% of the income taxes. The top 1% is paying more than ten times the federal income taxes than the bottom 50%. Anyone want to talk about fairness now?

Dude. I've told you this before. You'll get crap for answers unless you post your source.

The Census Bureau has done this for you. Only they divided the people into fifths. Funny thing, all income groups have moved up over 10, 20, 30+ years. REAL GAIN, after inflation and its effects have been factored in.

Not neccissarily so. Yes, most of the immigrants are poor when they reach this country. While they are here they are not that poor. I'm sorry but, in my county it seems that the illegals & immigrants are better off than those of us who are US citizens & in the class of the working poor. They will get help before any of us others will. They work for less money & longer hrs. than we will. So, the rich get richer, the poorer get poorer & the immigrants are taking some of our jobs away.

It's nice the rest of the country is doing well. Ohio and Mich. are not. The reverse is happening due to job exports. Poverty is on the rise. The number of families on welfare are on the rise.

Many in the middle class have to pay for the lower class while the upper class gets off easy.

Flat tax rate for all taxpayers.

Eaqual percentage of earnings taken from taxes.

I pay 35% of my wages, enough for a house payment.

If we are all equal we should all be screwed equal.

If illegal immigrants still want to be citizens after that, let them.

It isn't bad unless your a liberal trying to con the country into allow higher taxes to pay for the lame losers who fail at life and have no will to do things on thier own.
