Dr. Green, there are growing numbers of soldiers who agree with you. Just as with Viet Nam, it will be the sight of soldiers marching for peace that will shake the sleepy public from its coma.

A lot of the Soldiers sign up knowing that we are at war. We have been at war for 4 years and there are still people joining the military. They know what comes with it. We are not over there, we don't know what it is like. I believe the soldiers over there believe that they are doing something good, they see every day what they are fighting for and the people and children they are helping. And I say Good job and may god be with you and your families.

It's not a matter of being a slave or robot. When an order is clearly illegal (i.e. violates the UCMJ or established law), then a soldier can refuse it.
Where an order is merely foolish and ill-considered, but not illegal, the soldier doesn't get to choose. They either conform to their oath of service and follow the order, or ignore that oath and refuse to obey the order. Several have done that. Most are generally dis-respected for it.
As a nation, we need to start distinguishing between the orders they are given, and the fact that they have sworn to follow those orders. We should respect their commitment to their oath, and work to make sure the orders that are given to them are worthy of their service.

All soldiers are volunteers, and agree by contract to obey the orders of their superiors, and will undergo disciplinary action if they do not. Hence, no. Furthermore, the notion that there is something wrong with the war is both legally and morally erroneous.

No they could be shot for treason!! What are you thinking?
They may have personal feelings about certain things but they are united together to "get the job done"! No matter what a soldiers first loyalty is to his service!! To do what you suggest would brand them traitors - they would never get any high rank and might as well muster out.

Sure, General. Whatever you say. Let's get them American soldiers to take some "responsibility." My guess is that the only uniform you've ever worn had a big M on it. You're entitled to your opinion, but it still sucks.

Talk to soldiers who ahve been there. Many believe in the cause and want to go back, but that makes poor news, so you only hear about the dissidents. Thankfully for them this isn't China, where such action would probibily get you shot.
I have a friend who is going back for the 3rd time. He was in the second vehicle to enter Baghdad and seemed quite excited to back; his unit is assigned to help with rebuilding efforts.

Because the Soldiers are doing what they know is right for the country. That's why.
Anyone who says that the soldiers are beginning to agree with you, is lying.
But the Terrorists certainly appreciate your support.
