A 532w has an Intel 845GL chipset, which will support the Intel P4 Socket 478 processors with the Northwood core and 400 MHz FSB. Those go up to about 2.8 GHz.

Check your upgrade compatibility at this site:

You can check the 532w manually or let the website scan your computer. I checked the 532w and it does list a 2.8 GHz processor on the page for your computer.

For the most part, help from HP is suspect because they will usually tell you only which upgrades they support, not what the limits of your motherboard are. So keep in mind, you don't really need to follow what HP says.

The maximum HP approved CPU upgrade for your PC is 1.8 MHz Celeron or, 2.5 GHz P4. Check out the attached Imperial-GLA Motherboard manual.

what variety of celeron processor is this? a number of them are socket 478 and could help pentium 4's, different celerons are lga 775 and could help the maximum recent processors, yet then you definately ought to make confident that each thing else on your laptop is properly suited, like your ram and motherboard (to boot the socket, it won't help particular voltages and stuff).

You can do a live chat with HP at support.hp.com and they will be able to tell you what processors that your computer can support.
