Idk whether 2 go 2 college for acting or meteorology. Acting looks like is would be great. u kno- have a family-like cast, getting to act like someone u are not, being in the spot light. To me, that's living large. It's living the dream. I am so outgoing and have had numerous people tell me that I belong in Hollywood. But I'm scared that I will be a struggling actress. Right now, I barely know any of the terms that actoresses use..ex. screen testing. Idk if i want to go to college and then fail at being an actress and waste ALL that money when I could have been successful in meteorology. Meteorology would be cool. But I get excited, anxious, hyped-up, and EXTREMELY nervous when i think about acting. I don't want to settle for sumething. w/ going w/ acting, i wouldnt be settling. I have 1 life. People say to live the dream. acting seems to be my dream. What if acting doesnt work out, then i will be 1000s of $ in debt because of college & not be able to go to meteorology. wat should i do

I tell everyone who wants to act to get a degree in something else. In the first place you'll need it because actors need survival jobs. Just as importantly you'll be able to bring a different set of experiences to the table as an actor. An actor needs to experience life in order to truthfully portray it. And when you major in theater most of your classes are about the academic side of it. You don't get to work all that much. You can take most of the classes as electives. Like I say to everyone else, major in something else.

Those are two tough choices, because the chances of success are pretty small in both cases. Acting is basically boom or bust -- a few make it big, thousands upon thousands work as waitresses. Meteorology requires a strong science background, and there aren't a great many jobs in the field. There's the National Weather Service, the media, and a few others.

I would stick my toe in both fields -- try out for a play or two, see how you do; take some science classes and ask about interning in a weather-related field. One may be more attractive than the other at that point.

One last tip: If you feel you have a calling to be an actress, you'll always regret not trying. Better to do it now than later, when you can't start over easily.

I think meterology is a good major. To be a professional actress you don't need a degree, what you need is experience. You can get that in college by auditioning for on campus musicals and student films.

Not only that, but meterology is a good backup plan in case the acting thing doesn't work out. Both occupations suit your profile in that you're outgoing and smart.

If you want you can minor in acting or something. A lot of TV meterologists have some small background in performing.

Good Luck
