Two days ago i went into a website which turned out to be riddled with viruses and is affecting the performance of my computer. Among the viruses are "trojans" and something about privacy. I spent all day using spyware which detected over 109 infected files and my computer still has viruses! I know this because the computer is still slow and there is an annoying red warning sign is the corner of the screen. Finally do I use quarantine or delete viruses?

Make sure to turn off system restore before doing scans. Also its a good idea to restart your computer and then do the scan again to make sure everything is gone.

These are a few FREE programs (which I personally use), which work great together to check whether your computer is infected, if anything is found they will remove the problem files. Make sure to disable your own Anti-virus before installing a new one because it may cause a conflict.

Download the following:
Spybot: Search & Destroy - Application to scan for spyware, adware, hijackers and other malicious software. Make sure to download all of the newest updates before scanning.

Windows Defender - Windows Defender is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. Make sure to download all of the newest updates before scanning.

A Free online Scan you can perform is at Trend Micro’s website. They have an online scanner that works through your internet browser to detect viruses and malware on your computer. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

AVG Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Free Edition -http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/
Make sure to disable your own Anti-virus before installing a new one because it may cause a conflict. Make sure to download all of the newest updates before scanning.

To prevent future problems download SpywareBlaster and PC Tools Firewall Plus. Update them both and make sure to enable all protection.

Oh God I have the same problem, haven't a clue what to do, I had 600 00 viruses or something ridiculous, the number has dropped by a huge amount but it should take a little while longer to make sure all the viruses are completely gone. Good luck!

Anit-Spyware software removes SPYWARE!!! not Viruses. You must download an Anti-Virus software!!! And the best thing that you can do is just reformat your computer.

If you have a trojan then anti-virus software probably will not be able to remove it. In fact please do not use the word virus until you have established that you have a virus.

You need to identify the name of the trojan and then do a Google search on the virus name to find out how to get rid of it.

If possible just wipe your hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. It is virtually impossible to make absolutely sure that all viruses have been deleted, no matter how hard you try.

1 you need to run the removal utilities in SAFE MODE
2 you need more than one utility as they all miss something
3 You need an anti-virus program as well
4 you need to be more careful about where you surf
