you were able to have people qualify their thumbs downs? Only because there seems to be some people out there just down'in.

I usually get thumbs down from people with opposing views, as if giving me a thumbs down counters my expressed view point, which it does not.

So if a statement of why a thumbs down was in place, I'm sure they be many comments like "your an idiot" or "ha ha, you believe in god therefore your an idiot".

I think it would be better if a name was registered besides a thumbs down. then people will have to take responsibility for their thumbs down and reason behind it.
Not just because they dislike people who are religious, or non-racist.

I very rarely give Thumbs Down,only if it is incredibly stupid or offensive.I like to give Thumbs Up to all those sharp thinkers out there.I don't think there is time or space to qualify peoples judgment.Some people are just mean,angry and unhappy.They want to get back at the world.Don't take it personally.

That's a good idea. It would be nice if they had comments for "thumbs down". I usually only vote thumbs down when it looks like the answerer was not trying, was completely off point, or was just being mean-spirited.

while i agree some just give thumbs down to an opinion they disagree with, i dont think its feasible to require a reason why they do it, you also would have to provide that for the thumbs up category
and as mentioned, many might just say, "because your wrong, or an idiot"

i think taking control/getting control of the frivolous use of report abuse is much more important, as many were/and may still be using that just for answers they dont agree with
