I notice that nearly every time I walk into the kitchen, my female cat goes to her dish and eats in front of me? Why is this? Is this an indication of a social behavior and that she enjoys company while she eats? My male cat has different interesting behaviors, but that's not one of them.

Ive heard that lots of cats do that (including my own). I would imagine that you're right. Its just a social behavior. Wild cats usually eat together so it follows that domestic ones would want to eat with someone too.

Maybe she is doing that so you will know to put more food in her dish. Cats do not like empty food dishes. You've probably let her run out of food a few times before putting fresh food in her dish. Always having food in their food dishes is kind of a security blanket for cats.

that's quite interesting, my cat does the same thing. usually when she does this though she eats it really fast then goes to the bag of cat food and purrs like she wants more... so maybe she wants you to see she can eat it fast so you can feed her again? just a guess from noticing my own cat's behaviour..

Our three cats do the SAME thing! Mainly our dumb black cat Merlin though. I think they feel safer around us, and enjoy the company.
