Well, lucidity deals with comprehension.. or understanding.. So, it is understanding through silence.. (kind of like meditation).. also can be in dreams (if you look at some of the other lyrics..) In essence it's a song about learning the truth about something or someone in your sleep.. Lucid dreaming is the act of learning how to control what is in your dreams as well..

Sorry that these answers are so old ! I was not allowed to listen to rock music as a child until I broke away at 17 years old (fkd up bad) but only then began to realize that these songs had real meaning. Now I am 50 (sad) and I listen to these songs that I so loved at the keg parties at the 'trees' out in bumf*k after my Mom went crazy and I was pretty much on my own...I didn't listen to the lyrics, just sang them. I'm still at my age wondering what Chris DeGarmo was thinking about when he wrote these words.

This is a song about lucid dreaming... it is a way to gain knowledge of your dreams while you are in them and therefore control them. It is very possible, I have done this myself. Very powerful.... check out www.ld4all.com

The meaning that I got out of this song is that you can control your dreams...so as the son is trying to control them his father will guide him to a certain degree. The experience is for his son, yet the father will sit behind the scenes in silence, smiling in knowing his son has what it takes to conquer the dream... it's got a wicked twist to it...yet very deep meaning. For those who believe in God's word...it reminds me of "thou I walk through the shadow of death"...

its about death...when a person dies/leaves the game of life, that person comes in your dreams, sitting silent next to you.

That song is quite deep, it reminds me of my father who committed suicide 10 years ago, he once made me sit and listen to it with him.

wow, this is one of my all time favorite song. My interpretation is that in your dreams is where you have control, you can achieve anything in your dreams because its in your own hands...quite freaky huh ?
